Fine historical shell cameo brooch, made of yellow gold 585 / 14 Kt (tested and guaranteed).
The portrait of a bacchante is cut into the oval shell cameo. As one of the ladies of the retinue of Dionysus, her main hair is typically adorned with vine leaves and branches. The shell cameo sits in a simple pretty cord frame of yellow gold.
The beautiful brooch can be fastened very well to the lapel or a blouse with a back pin with C-hook clasp.
This elegant piece of jewellery was created around 1880 and is a wonderful example of the reception of antiquities in the Historicist period.
