Description
Large Austrian coin charivari made of 835 silver (stamped and guaranteed).
A solid, large armoured chain holds a total of nine Austrian commemorative coins in various sizes: Two 25 Schilling coins, one with an image of the Vienna Stock Exchange and one with a portrait of the Austrian writer Franz Grillparzer, four 50 Schilling commemorative coins; on the theme of 50 years of the Republic 1918-1968, on the 1974 International Garden Show, on 125 years of the Austrian Gendarmerie in 1974 and with a portrait of the composer Franz Schubert on the 100th anniversary of his death in 1878. Two 100 Schilling coins, one to celebrate the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck and one to mark the 150th birthday of Johann Strauss, the ‘Waltz King’. In the centre hangs a large Maria Theresa thaler, one of the most minted coins in the world, which was the official means of payment in Austria until 1858.
All the coins are attached to the strong chain by eyelets, with a securely functioning spring clasp on the left and right.
This impressive charivari was made in Austria around 1976 and is an interesting piece of Austrian contemporary history and, of course, a beautiful addition to a lederhosen!
