Description
Beautiful English Art Nouveau brooch made of silver (tested and guaranteed). The small brooch, created around 1900, is open-worked and designed as a stylized insect whose wings are decorated with masterfully crafted decorative enamel in shimmering shades of blue and green. The body of the animal is adorned with shiny natural pearls, a small movable suspension - also provided with a natural pearl - sets a playful accent. The enamelled reverse of the brooch, so-called contré enamel, is particularly noteworthy. It indicates that the brooch originated in England, where the combination of silver with blue and green enamel became common between 1900-1908. Companies such as Liberty and Co or Murrle, Bennett and Co, which produced similar works and designs, should be mentioned here (cf. Glüber 2011, Jugendstilschmuck - Der Bestand im Hessischen Landesmuseum Darmstadt, p. 311).
This rare brooch is an enchanting collector's item with its own style and character.
