Description
Unique antique ring from the baroque period, worked in red gold 585 / 14 ct (tested and guaranteed) and set with sparkling rose-cut diamonds.
The 17 diamond roses of approx. 1.2 carats adorn a cross-oval, flower-shaped ring head in which the diamonds are foiled and set in silver. The technique of foiling gemstones has been a popular design element in jewellery making since the late Gothic period. A wafer-thin foil of copper, silver or tin was placed between the setting and the stone to make it look even more alive from below.
The red-golden rail of the ring is open-work and decorated on both sides of the ring head with playful floral foliage. Particularly charming is a tulip blossom in relief on the underside of the ring head.
This very rare historical ring was made around 1740 and comes from Flanders. It was made during the Baroque period, when floral motifs such as flowers, leaf tendrils and bows were particularly popular and the age of diamond jewellery dawned. It was the most important stone in 18th century jewellery production, due to the discovery of huge diamond deposits in Brazil in 1727 and the development of more modern cuts, such as the rose cut used here.
