Fantastic antique pendant with a fine lava cameo in a gold-plated silver frame (tested and guaranteed).
The oval, olive-green lava cameo shows the finely carved portrait of the goddess of victory Nike in profile facing right. Her wide-cut robe reveals her shoulders, which are softly curled by soft strands of hair. She also wears her attribute, the laurel wreath, in her half upswept hair.
The portrait is masterfully carved and is particularly impressive due to its beautiful, three-dimensional execution and perfect preservation.
The large lava cameo sits in a simple corded frame made of gold-plated silver and can be attached to a chain of your choice using a movable eyelet.
The historical pendant was created in Italy around 1880 and reflects the prevailing enthusiasm for antiquities in the 19th century. Trips to Italy, especially to the excavation sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum, were often immortalized for future generations in the form of souvenirs made of lava rock (limestone).
