Description
Ancient, unmounted mussel cameo with a finely cut depiction of a playful scene between Venus and Cupid. Venus, the goddess of love, stretches the bow of her son Amor while he tries to recover him.
This large cameo is a particularly sought-after object in the art of gemmes, due to its detailed cut and its rather rare motif. It was created around 1840 in Naples and is an outstanding example of the Italian veneration of antiquity at the end of the 19th century.
Dimensions of the gem: 5.3 x 4.8 cm.
Weight: 10.8 grams.
Condition: Beautifully preserved, no cracks or stress lines, freshly cleaned, see photos.
You will receive the mussel cameo lovingly packed in one of our high-quality cases and with a certificate of authenticity.
