Description
Wonderful historical bracelet, artfully made of several strands of braided dark brown hair and centered with a floral decorated decorative clasp in yellow gold 585/ 14 Kt (tested and guaranteed). The show cartridge of the clasp presents the monogram letter "g", also made of fine hair and gold, under a highly oval glass inlay. Fine gold pendants with tassels form the safety chain of the buckle and add a moving lightness to the static design of the strictly woven hairband.
The antique piece of jewellery was created around 1850 and reflects the historical charm of the typical jewellery of the time, which had a very high value in the sensitive 19th century. As sentimentally valuable gifts exchanged between friends, lovers and relatives, hair work became particularly popular as a special form of personal jewelry not least because of its affordability. Until the 1850s, incredibly sophisticated patterns and weaves developed, and goldsmiths then made special fittings with which hair weaving could be worn as jewellery. In addition to all the craftsmanship, it was of particular importance to the client that the hair used in the special piece of jewellery was actually the hair they had sent for processing and thus personally connected it with a loved one in a very special way.
