Description
Exquisite shell brooch from Pinchbeck with finely cut cameo showing a profile of Menelaus, King of Sparta. He is depicted with curly hair and full beard and wears a sculpturally decorated helmet as well as antique robes. His gaze is to the right. The mussel mixture is very finely cut and worked out in high craftsmanship. She sits in a beautiful frame from Pinchbeck, which is decorated with floral chased waveband. At the back the brooch has a simple, well functioning needle with safety slide. In addition, a safety chain is attached to the frame.The wonderful cameo brooch was created around 1850 in England and is a highlight for every antique jewellery lover. Dimensions of the brooch: 6,4 x 5,6 cm.
