Description
Historic Dormeuse diamond earrings from Austria, crafted from red gold 585 / 14 ct (stamped and guaranteed).
The earrings, designed like two small flowers, are each set in the center with a rose-cut diamond totaling ca. 0.3 carats. Contemporary hinged hoop earrings on the back ensure a comfortable and secure hold on the ear.
The name of the earrings is derived from the French verb "dormir" (= to sleep): small earrings, which sit close to the earlobe and are often fitted with hinged hoop earrings, were intended to be worn while sleeping. Towards the end of the 19th century in particular, people abandoned long, pompous earrings in favor of more discreet jewels such as dormeuse earrings.
These enchanting earrings were created in Austria around 1900 and can be combined in a variety of ways thanks to their discreet design.
Dimensions of the earrings (incl. prong): 1.4 x 0.9 cm.
Diameter of the rose-cut diamonds: ca. 3.3 mm, total ca. 0.3 ct.
Weight: total 2.2 grams.
Condition: Very nice historical condition, freshly cleaned, see photos.
You will receive the earrings lovingly packaged in one of our pretty cases and with a certificate of authenticity.
Please note: Vintage or antique jewelry items are worn objects that may show slight signs of wear due to their history.
