Description
Antique snake ring with emerald and diamond, made of 750/18 Kt yellow gold (stamped and guaranteed).
The historic ring consists of two stylized snakes entwined around each other. The reptiles' heads are set with a sparkling old European-cut diamond of ca. 0.20 carats (I-J, P) and a bright green emerald in a pear cut. The emerald has a stone weight of ca. 0.34 carats and provides a striking contrast to the warm gold tone of the ring band.
The historic ring was created in England around 1900 and, with the snake's symbolism of eternity, is to be understood as a sign of friendship or love. During the Art Nouveau period, the snake experienced a peak in popularity as a motif and was immortalized in numerous pieces of jewelry, which were often given as tokens of affection.
