What does vintage actually mean?

In English, "vintage" means old, old-fashioned, mature and special. The term is considered a very positive attribute. In German, too, vintage stands for a quality feature that refers to objects that embody the style of their time and are characterised by their special quality, their special look and authenticity.

Good to know: Vintage pieces of jewellery are authentic originals, not modern imitations in the style of past eras.

Vintage jewellery: a historical classification

It is difficult to define uniform style characteristics for vintage jewellery. The reason for this is the diverse trends and stylistic pluralism that characterised the second half of the 20th century: From the figurative brooches of the 1940s and the cocktail jewellery of the 1950s to the innovative structures and ornaments of the Swinging Sixties and unusual material combinations of the 1970s to the eccentric designs of the 80s and 90s - each decade produced its own trends. Jewellery designers and goldsmiths were also constantly testing the boundaries and redefining the understanding of what is considered jewellery and what it should look like.

In our "Vintage" category, you will find all those pieces of jewellery that were created after the years of Art Déco jewellery and embody the style of the post-war period with its newly discovered joie de vivre.

Whether expressive vintage necklaces from the Space Age, large playful pendants from the Seventies or voluminous vintage earrings from the Eighties - browse through four decades of extraordinary jewellery art!
